Why NaNoWriMo Didn't Work For Me

And why I'm praying the crazy (but doable) 3B1Y crazy challenge does

Every year around the middle to end of October I start to ruminate. The question is the same year after year: what should I write about for the upcoming NaNoWriMo challenge?

Should I start from scratch ("me siento muy...excited") or should I complete one of the billions and billions of WIPs I have in the pipeline? I often opt for the former, but once or twice I've done the latter. Either option yielded the same results: an aborted work of ten to fifteen thousand, always missing the goal of 50K. Why? Could be because it's a short month that has Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. BTW, I only celebrate one of those.

I inevitably drift back to another WIP that has nothing to do with the challenge or start yet another new project. So here I am—here we are—trying something different. My plan is to "launch" my 3B1Y challenge on January 1 because it makes sense of my brain. You or your mama may move further out to the spring or even begin in the summer. Whatever you end up choosing, make sure it suits your schedule and your goals.

I can just hear folks now, whispering amongst themselves, "She can't handle fifty thousand words in one month, but she's trying to complete three books in a year? Make it make sense!"

It still doesn't make sense to me, but I reason why not make the goal bigger and even more outrageous and see where it takes me? Wait, should that have a question mark or a period? I don't even know. In any case, I salute the NaNoWriMo-ers who can make it to fifty and beyond. I'm just trying to get to 150K. No biggie.

You've made it this far. You know what time it is: time to get writing right now!
