Social Media, I Want to Quit You

But then how will people find the 3 books I plan on writing next year?

Angry emoji with one tooth surrounded by social media logos with a green tint and bright light.

I haven't posted in over a month because I was editing and publishing a book because...I'm a writer! Not a social media guru who has gamed the IG or TikTok algorithm.

Most of us writers are just trying to write. We're not in the habit of promoting ourselves across social media. In fact, we cringe at the very idea. We live in our heads half the time thinking about character arcs and consistent tense usage. Yet, here we are, being forced to put ourselves out there when that very same amount of time could be used writing our next great piece of work.

If we're honest with ourselves, socials are for lurking and doom scrolling, not creating for creating targeted ads that link back to our author site or the KDP universe. To my detriment, I haven't been consistent with social media or blog content for any extended period of time. What I have been consistent with is WRITING—the actual thing I want to be doing for a good chunk of my waking hours, not creating some video on Canva that I have to then import into one of the platforms I don't want to be on...only to be told that there was a technical issue in processing said content. Retry. Retry. Retry. Come on, meng. Come on, dawg.

The one silver lining here is direct contact with readers...when I actually find them.

You've made it this far. You know what time it is: time to get writing right now!
